Year in Review: 2019

How can we do things better for our clients?

As we look back over the past year, that question was a driving force as we focused on effectiveness and efficiency. In all we accomplished, our end goal was the same — making improvements that lead to better, results-focused service for our clients.

Here are a few of our most notable achievements of 2019:

  1. Faster turnarounds on tax returns

During tax season, we improved our turnaround time on return deliveries through a 50% increase in the use of our online portals. Additionally, we incorporated the use of electronic signatures on return documents on a much larger scale, ultimately saving time and paper. We will continue to look for and utilize secure digital strategies to benefit you.

  1. Expansion in our team’s CPA knowledge

The year brought an increase in our staff’s certified public accountant (CPA) credentials through a new hire. In addition, we are pleased to cheer on the educational advancement of one of our existing staff members.

In September, Wendy Yelton, CPA, joined us as finance director. She has assumed the role of internal financial accountant and has been a great addition.

Staff accountant Brian Poelma devoted 2019 to studying for the CPA exam after earning his Master of Science degree in business administration with an emphasis in accountancy. He recently completed the first part of the exam, which has four sections.

  1. Improvements in office workflow for better team performance

As our staff has grown, our office needs have changed. With a goal to enhance team cooperation and workflow, we expanded our conference room, which is now big enough for all our staff and contains big monitors that facilitate our training needs. We even hosted a movie day in March — popcorn and candy included — to celebrate with our team. We believe in supporting a positive work environment for our employees.

Looking forward to the New Year

Our plans for 2020 are to keep growing and improving! Looking ahead, you can expect to benefit from …

  • our advisory service models scaled to fit your needs
  • tailored accounting and tax maintenance packages that best fit your business
  • enhanced security as we utilize extensive taxpayer data security models to accommodate ever-increasing threats in the digital world.

We will continue positioning Miller, Bales & Company as a next-generation accounting firm — with the goal to be the leading financial service firm in mid-Missouri — because we want our growth to strengthen your confidence in us.

As we close 2019, our greatest achievement is clear: adding another year to our client relationships. Each year, we measure our success by the longevity and results of our service to you. Your success is our success. Thank you for helping us grow in 2019.

Happy holidays, and we look forward to seeing you next year!
